Writers, poets and photographers are invited to show off their talents during Didsbury Arts Festival 2011.
Three major competitions, being held as part of this year’s Festival, are open to artists of all ages from within and outside Didsbury.
A photography competition open to all snappers, both amateur and professional, will be judged by local photographers, Len Grant, Penny Skerret and Alan Towse. The theme of the competition is ‘Stories’. Entries must be in by 1 August.
For budding writers, the Festival’s open poetry and short story competitions will provide an exciting challenge. The theme of both competitions is ‘Maps’. Blue Murder writer, Cath Staincliffe, and Didsbury poet Jeffrey Wainwright will be among the judges. Last year’s competitions attracted entrants from as far afield as Sussex and Devon. The closing date for entries is 5 August.
Didsbury Arts Festival 2011 will take place from Saturday 24 September to Saturday 1 October. Local artists, organisations and individuals are invited to support the eight-day celebration which, last year, attracted over 10,000 visitors.
An exciting and eclectic Festival programme will represent a huge range of the arts from music, theatre and comedy to visual arts, crafts and writing.
