It's been an action-packed month! Since our February e-News:
- We've started clearing our first community garden on Barlow Moor Road. - We've sourced a new landshare plot near Fog Lane Park. - We've done site assessments for two further plots of land. Details will follow in our next e-News! - We've started recruiting for a 'learn to cook' planning group to help us reach our goal of teaching 100+ more people how to cook, for free. - Inmans, The Alpine Tea Room, The Art of Tea Bookshop, A Taste of Honey and Healthy Spirit have signed up as the latest stockists of Didsbury Dinners. - Our pitch on Crowdfunder has been approved, giving us 47 days in which to raise £2,500 for our community growing and community cooking projects!
The first £1,500 will pay for enough established fruit trees and tree guards to start a new community orchard, and for the extra resources that we need for our new community gardens. We've managed to gather many of the resources that we need, such as seeds, via good will. And we'll make as much use of recycled materials, such as old tyres and abandoned shoes as we can - as our gardening photo blog shows! http://didsburydinners.tumblr.com
The remaining £1,000 will pay for the resources that we need to teach 100+ people how to cook - for free, including portable electric hobs, basic cookery equipment, and certificates for anyone in the community who attends one of our free 6-week cookery courses. Remember: priority places are given to people with below average cookery skills, a small regular income, and low savings.
We've even devised some rewards for anyone who's kind enough to help us to reach our Crowdfunder fundraising target. How about offsetting your carbon footprint for the year by sponsoring local trees? We'll throw in a free photo certificate, making it a perfect gift idea. All donations over £50 will be rewarded with a free signed copy of Didsbury Dinners, so please do consider supporting us. Thank you for any donations, big or small!
