Conker Communications account executive Jazmin Cabrera found herself in prestigious company – and a long way from her Lapwing Lane office - after she was selected to visit Number 10 Downing Street for a meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May.
Jazmin, 23, was one of twelve personally invited by the magazine to join them at Number 10 to talk about their Get Home Safely campaign. The campaign aims to help women avoid unlicensed taxis and dangerous routes home through awareness and new laws.
The group was privy to a half hour meeting with Theresa May to talk about how the campaign had developed and what was left to be done, touching upon subjects such as ‘Get Home Safely’ websites, lighting cuts and SOS buses.
Jazmin said about the experience: “Getting to not only meet David Cameron and Theresa May but to step foot inside 10 Downing Street also was an incredible experience. Both the Prime Minister and Home Secretary were really friendly and we shared a few jokes about Larry the cat who had just joined them that same day.
“I’m really proud to have been a part of such a great campaign. Our views seemed to be taken on board and I’m hoping that we will see some changes in the future, especially when it comes to turning street lights back on after the recent cuts.”
After the half hour debate, the group were invited on a tour of Number 10 before making their way back to the Company offices via a “Get Home Safely Night Walk”.
Jazmin’s trip to Downing St was a long way from her role at Conker, where she – and the rest of the Conker team – focus on B2B and B2C PR and marketing, with client sectors ranging from fashion to technology to recruitment. Although she enjoyed her day in the political heartland of England, she assures us she won’t be leaving West Didsbury any time soon!
