beta Fetch Didsbury

Jem&i July 2010

Jem&i has always been one of our favourite Didsbury restaurants here at Fetch. We've been going since it was a tiny little place where you almost sat in the kitchen at some tables. The refit a few years back gave a lot more space and added a brighter airy feel.

As a rare treat on an evening off we called up Jem&i and booked ourselves in to try out the latest menu.

The starts were excellent and generously portioned. Gravadlax with cornish crab, avocado and pink grape fruit salad and a personal favourite chicken liver parfait.

Mains were a tougher choice. We finally settled on sirloin steak au poivre with fat chips and onion rings, duo of crispy pork belly and pork fillet with cheddar mash and roast piri piri chicken with chorizo and potatas bravas.

The size of the two pieces of pork were huge. Always good when you didn't order it, but you do want to try it! Plates were passed around to ensure all plates were returned empty and there was still space for pudding.

The steak came cooked perfectly with fluffy centre chips that had a nice crunchy skin. The au poivre souce was creamy and moreish.

Jem&i is one of those restaurants where you don't have to worry about what is good, you do however have make a choice. You can't order everything!

Puddings were again a tough choice, but we ordered vanilla pannacotta with rhubarb compote and crumble topping, creme brulee with raspberry sorbet and after a recommendation from @sicossar to our Fetch Didsbury Twitter account, baked chocolate putting with pistachio ice cream. The chocolate pudding it baked to order and takes a little longer to arrive but it really is worth the wait!

A lovely touch was having j i written in raspberry on the plate of one of the puddings. See the photo below!

After all that lot we were ready to burst so we decided on a walk home. We requested the bill and when it arrived were pleasantly surprised at the how for a small and really rather special restaurant the pricing is still reasonable.

Get yourself down there and try it for yourself.

Some photos to get your mouth watering...
