Tennis Teams face each other at the Northern!

The Northern 2nd Team played host to the Northern 1st Team last Monday night in the big local derby of the North East Cheshire Tennis League Premier Division.

With both teams equally familiar with the new synthetic clay tiger turf courts there were no excuses. The contest of the day saw the points shared between the 1st teams Adam Bradshaw and Martijn De Lange versus 2nds Elliot Street and partner.

Meanwhile the 1st teams quality pairing of Jamie Hunter and Ian Blakeman had a relatively simple victory against young and talented debutant Matt Gawley and old and talented Paul Smith - a last minute, but valuable, addition to the team - surely a pairing for the future!

First team captain Jason Tonge and the left handed thoroughbread Pete Bailo took 2nd team pairing Emil Haye and Dave Thomas apart with a rock solid performance. Haye was unfortunate to suffer a blow into the groin from a Bailo drive, the ball bouncing visciously upward forcing him to the ground for a period of time. He recovered valiantly to continue the match but was unable to find the right opportunity to strike Bailo back.

The 1st Team ended overall winners 10 - 2 and are the strong favourites to win the title once more. Meanwhile the 2nd Team will regroup and go again. Check out both teams fixtures at the club if you want to watch them in future....the rematch is in a couple of weeks...
