Two arrested after One Lounge window smashed

Two men have been arrested after a window was smashed at a bar in Didsbury.

The incident happened just after 11.50pm, when police received a report that a man armed with the barrel of a shotgun had smashed a window at the Lounge Bar on Burton Road, Didsbury.

Armed officers quickly attended the scene.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. They remain in police custody for questioning.

No shots were believed to have been fired. Inquiries are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Derek Hewitt said: “Understandably people will be concerned by the news of what has happened, and I have no doubt this was an extremely frightening experience for those who were in the bar at the time.

“However, I would like to try and reassure people that no one has been injured and police arrived quickly at the scene. Two men have been arrested.

“This is an isolated incident and this type of crime is very rare in Didsbury. We have a team of officers who remain at the scene and are searching the area and speaking to residents.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or seen or heard anything suspicious in the lead up to it, to contact police. Your information could be vital to our investigation.

“Extra police officers will remain on patrol in the area over the coming few days to provide reassurance to local people there.”
