Book Club at Silver Apples, Burton Road, April 6th 2010
The monthly book club at Silver Apples, Burton Road, West Didsbury takes place on the first Tuesday of the month. Aprils book club will be on Tuesday 6th April from 7.30pm.
You can take part in a friendly discussion about the two books chosen each month.
Aprils books are:
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel Set in the 1520s and 1530s, the novel is about the rapid rise to power of Thomas Cromwell in the Tudor court of King Henry VIII. Born to a lower-class family of no position or name, Cromwell first became the right-hand of Cardinal Wolsey, and then, after Wolsey's fall from grace, the chief minister to Henry VIII.
On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan In July, 1962, Edward Mayhew and Florence Ponting, young people deeply in love and of drastically different backgrounds (he's the son of a schoolmaster and a brain-damaged woman, whereas she is the musically gifted daughter of a wealthy industrialist and an Oxford philosophy lecturer), have just been married and are spending their honeymoon in a small hotel on the Dorset seashore.
So whether you have already read one or both of the book above, or you fancy reading them in the next couple of weeks, now is the time to considering your point of view and anything you would like to discuss about them.
